Lapeer RNs OVERWHELMINGLY Authorize a Strike – and Grow Their Membership in the Process
McLaren’s executives have continued to make millions as nurses on the frontlines have sounded the alarm about the need to have safe staffing. Nurses at McLaren Lapeer have said enough is enough. In a UNANIMOUS vote, they have authorized the bargaining team to call for a strike. In the process of holding the vote, even more RNs signed up to join the union. Stay tuned for ways to support Lapeer RNs as they fight for their patients and for each other.
For MNA Members Only: Share Your Concerns with U.S. Senator Peters
MNA is pleased to host a special members-only Zoom call with U.S. Senator Gary Peters from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7. You can sign up here.
As one of Michigan’s two U.S. senators, Sen. Peters represents the entire state. This is an opportunity for MNA members to get a legislative update from the senator, share experiences and concerns, and ask questions.
All members are welcome to attend. Due to the senator’s limited time, members who speak on the call will be pre-selected. If you have a question for Sen. Peters, please submit it at the time you sign up.
Nurses and Health Professionals at Sparrow Hospital WIN Contract Extension in the Midst of Pandemic
PECSH-MNA members voted to ratify a one-year extension to their contract by an overwhelming majority of 97% YES. This extension increases base wages for all members, improves shift differentials, and continues to guarantee high quality healthcare with no changes to health insurance plans. Next up: organizing to win a full contract that further builds on these gains.

Michigan Medicine RNs Share Experiences with Other University Employees
UMPNC-MNA RNs joined other workers at the University of Michigan (both union and not-yet-union) in sharing their experiences at a speak-out held by the All Campus Labor Council. Following the meeting, the ACLC sent a letter to President Schlissel demanding a joint meeting to discuss concerns about the University’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and their attitude towards workers. Michigan Medicine RNs join their fellow MNA members in forming coalitions to challenge systems as a whole. Nurses at Ascension hospitals and McLaren hospitals are also uniting with other workers to push back on the policies of the administration. At McLaren, the CEO of each of the hospitals in the coalition has agreed to have a meeting with the respective unions – even as the coalition continues to push for meeting with the head of the health system as a whole.
