This live, interactive session provides 2 contact hours for nurses and will define implicit bias and discuss ways that RNs and health care workers can help reduce health disparities and barriers to healthcare in Michigan. Completion of the provided preassessment, session content and post session evaluation will ensure that RNs will have completed the necessary timeframe, content, requirements and accredited professional development standards as set by the State of Michigan for licenses renewing 2021 through 2023! Participants will also be able to enjoy refreshments, gift bags, giveaways and an optional Nursing Recommitment Ceremony following the CE, during which we kick off Nurses Week with a group candle lighting while all nurses present can re-pledge ourselves to the profession we love.

This session is sponsored by MNA’s Council of Nursing Practice and Committee for Diversity, Inclusion and Cultural Competency. MNA is an accredited provider of continuing nursing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialling Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Sparrow Homecare Workers Unanimously Win Their Union

By an amazing 31-0 vote, healthcare professionals at Sparrow Homecare voted in early March to join nurses at Sparrow Homecare and become MNA members. This shows the power of solidarity! You can congratulate these healthcare professionals on their amazing victory and welcome them to our union by clicking here.

Organizing For the Short Term to Win Big for the Long Term

MNA Nurses at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo have been uniting to fight for what they need – both now and in the long term. Over a dozen unit meetings have been held or are currently scheduled. The impact is already starting to be felt.

For instance, Labor and Delivery nurses united together as a department and began taking action. They posted a collective group photo demanding safe patient care on social media to make sure their manager saw it. They reinvigorated a workload review committee set up through their contract (called DBCC at Borgess) to raise concerns. Once the committee was back in action, they voted 8-1 (with the only no vote coming from the manager) to ban floating patient assignments. It still remains to be seen whether Ascension’s administration will honor their democratic voice, but nurses are united and ready to hold them accountable no matter what.
