In 92% Landslide Win, Marquette Techs Vote to Join MNA |

U.P. Health System-Marquette is owned by a private equity firm that hired union busters to try to stop workers there from winning a collective voice. Rather than be scared by the anti-union tactics, techs at the hospital came together to UNITE and voted to win their union and become members of the Michigan Nurses Association. Legislative update: MNA fights for safe staffing law, hero pay MNA members have been busy this month advocating with their U.S. Senators and Representatives for a federal nurse-to-patient ratio law. During Zoom visits with leaders in D.C., nurses shared their stories of unsafe staffing in hospitals and how it hurts patients and nurses. Both on the state and federal level, MNA will continue to fight for a law to limit the number of patients nurses are assigned. MNA is also advocating strongly for nurses to receive some type of "hero pay" to acknowledge the sacrifices RNs have made during the pandemic. The American Recovery Plan allows for the use of federal money to compensate essential workers, and nurses deserve to be included. |

The Michigan Nurses Association Political Action Committee (MNA PAC) is a voluntary nonpartisan fund supporting elected officials and candidates who fight for our legislative priorities, including: - Safe staffing ratios (the Safe Patient Care Act)
- Reducing workplace violence
- Support for collective bargaining
Elected leaders make the laws that affect our daily lives. Nurses deserve a seat at the table so we can protect our practice, our profession and our patients. Without your financial support, it’s difficult for lawmakers to stand up to the powerful and well-funded hospital industry. Your contributions make the voice of Michigan's RNs and health professionals heard by legislators. The MNA PAC does not use union dues. Cannabis & the Endocannabinoid System: What Every Nurse Should Know Content expert: Dr. Hong Truong

Dr. Truong outlines the physiology of the human endocannabinoid system and how plant-based cannabinoids work in the body and ties together how nurses can advocate for safe usage of medical marijuana in clinical settings.
Learning outcomes: - Define the primary physiologic functions of the endocannabinoid system
- Explain the differences between phytocannabinoids (plant based) & endocannabinoids (internal)
- Apply the pharmacokinetic properties of endocannabinoids to patient education scenarios

Save the Date! MNA CE Forum: September 30th 1-5:30 pm (can choose virtual or in person) Nurses and health care workers faced an unprecedented year of caring for COVID-19 patients, and the mental/physical scars remain. Attendees at the 2021 CE Forum will find “Help and Hope for Health Care Workers.” Held at the Sheraton Ann Arbor Hotel, the sessions will feature speakers who have had their own experiences with workplace trauma plus hands-on breakout sessions to learn coping mechanisms. As the work continues, so must the healing. Registration opens in July . Up to 4.0 contact hours are available for attending the entire in-person session; virtual option available. This event is free for MNA members. |
