Urge a hearing for the Safe Patient Care Act.

MNA’s Safe Patient Care Act is a bipartisan plan that would require hospitals to follow safe RN-to-patient ratios, limit forced RN overtime, and release data about their ratios.

The pandemic has shown us more than ever that the hospital industry’s years of RN understaffing must end so nurses can provide safe, quality care to every patient.

I’m asking you to hold a hearing on a bipartisan package of bills known as the Safe Patient Care Act (SBs 204-206).

These bills are important to me because I know that safe staffing in hospitals saves lives. When nurses are stretched too thin or forced to work while exhausted, patient care suffers.

All patients deserve the skilled care of a well-rested nurse with enough time to focus on their needs. The Safe Patient Care Act will help make this happen by:
• Establishing safe limits on patient assignments that hospitals must follow (SB 204, sponsored by Sen. McBroom)
• Limiting forced overtime for nurses (SB 205, sponsored by Sen. Chang)
• Requiring hospitals to disclose their actual RN-to-patient ratios (SB 206, sponsored by Sen. Moss)
